Abdul Razak Abdul Muttalif MAHSA University

Professor Dato’ Dr Hj Abdul Razak earned his MBBS from University Malaya in 1982. After working as a House Officer and as a Medical Officer in various hospitals, he commenced his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at University Kebangsaan Malaysia and received his Masters in Internal Medicine. In 1995, he moved to the United Kingdom to commence Respiratory training at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. The same year, he earned an MSc in Respiratory Medicine from the University of London. Upon returning to Malaysia, he served as a Consultant Physician at the Kuala Terengganu Hospital for ten years and later as the Head of the Respiratory Department in Penang Hospital, for eight years. In his last six years in the Ministry of Health, he was the Director of the Respiratory Institute, Kuala Lumpur and Head of Respiratory services in Malaysia. He moved over to MAHSA University after retirement from the Ministry of health, on October 2017. He is a Life Member of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia and Malaysian Thoracic Society, a Fellow of the Asia Pacific Society of Respiratory, Member of the American College of Chest Physicians, European Respiratory Society, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and committee member of Union Asia Pacific Region. During his career, he had earned numerous honors: the state award from the Governor of Penang, two state awards from the Sultan of Terengganu and the Sultan of Perak; a Medal for Long Service in the Malaysian Medical Association (2008); and three Best Service Awards by the state health departments of Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang (1984, 1994 & 2007). He had presented numerous papers at both local and international meetings. Published more than 100 papers in peer reviewed journals. Was also involved in numerous respiratory diseases guidelines in Malaysia, like COPD, asthma, TB and MDRTB.
